John Kern

Director, Prairie Ronde

After spending time in Seattle working as a teacher, John returned to the Midwest for the opportunity to help rehabilitate the former Lee Paper Mill.

With nearly 30 years in education, John brings a deep commitment to support, service, and creativity. His perspective helped spark an early idea that turned into a nationally recognized program. Developed alongside visionary Frances Li, that spark grew into the Prairie Ronde Artist Residency which hosts artists from across the country and around the world.

Today, John helps guide the residency as a place for independent spirits—a space devoted to those who create, where ideas take shape, and where discovery and growth are continually encouraged.
