ounded in 2017, Prairie Ronde is an artist residency and gallery rooted in place, process, and transformation. It offers artists from a range of disciplines a five-to-six-week, place-based experience in Vicksburg, including a stipend, travel support, and temporary housing in exchange for meaningful engagement with The Mill at Vicksburg and the surrounding Southwest Michigan landscape.
At the conclusion of each residency, artists contribute a work to the program’s growing permanent collection. Since its founding, Prairie Ronde has welcomed nearly 200 artists from across the country and around the world. In 2025, it received the Epic Award from the Arts Council of Greater Kalamazoo, recognizing its impact on the region’s creative life.
The Prairie Ronde Artist Gallery at 101 Prairie Street displays rotating works from the residency, and happens to be one of the more inspired places in Southwest Michigan to sit with a coffee and a muffin from next-door Mackenzies Bakery.
