Prairie Ronde Draws International Artists to The Mill

May 26, 2026

The historic Lee Paper Mill has become an international destination for artists through the Prairie Ronde Artist Residency. What was once an abandoned industrial site now serves as a creative environment where artists from around the world come to create work inspired by the scale, history and transformation of The Mill.

Since its start eight years ago, Prairie Ronde has evolved into a highly respected residency program that offers artists dedicated time, space and resources to immerse themselves in The Mill and its surrounding community. Artists are encouraged to engage with the ongoing redevelopment, often creating work that documents or interprets the site’s transition from industrial landmark to cultural destination.

Hear from two artists in residence, Xingyu Huang and Mariana Noreña, as they share their experience at Prairie Ronde and how the residency gave them—and many other artists—the freedom to create without limits.
